Please be aware that we’ll be asking all attendees to sign a waver for the event releasing us and the Ephorate of Antiquities from liability. There will be safety officers present to help us stay safe, but remember that every one of us if the first line of defence against accident. You will be asked to sign when you come to set up camp, and you will be asked to pay a site fee of 25 euros, which will help us with the cost of some aspects of the event. NB if you can’t afford the 25 euros, please just tell us and we’ll do our best to cover you.
All attendees will have to sign in upon arrival, where they will be assigned a camp site, a parking area, and will have to pay a site fee to cover toilets and other basic necessities. Please expect to provide your own food. We’ll list some local tavernas and restaurants, but this is FAR from the big city, and we recommend a period camp with period cooking for the best immersive experience.
Registration closes July 10, 2024. Will we turn you away if you are not registered? No, but you’ll be making our lives as organizers much harder (and you may not get fed) ! So please help out.
It’s going to be HOT. Be prepared! Fitness, sun screen, a good canteen, a plastic water bottle in your side bag… these are as important as your kit. We will keep most activities to the cooler parts of the day, but be aware!
In 2024 all registrations will be by individuals. Sure, we can make an exception; write to me at 1phokion@gmail.com and I’ll do my best. But in general, because of the way the Greek Government is covering the event, it’s best to register person by person.
If you belong to an organization that is attending, please note that group in the space provided. We understand if a few people aren’t sure until the last minute, but we appreciate accuracy as the head count determines many costs.
Rules of Behavior During The Event
Plataea 2024 is being run by Hoplologia in cooperation with the Government of Greece. All reenactors attending need to read and understand the following.
- No display of modern political slogans, songs, symbols or any other device will be tolerated.
- No example of hate speech, verbal abuse, threat, or slur will be tolerated. We expect to have both people of colour and women serving in many roles; if your group can’t tolerate that, you shouldn’t come.
- All participants will do their best to wear authentic kit, to correctly represent their role, and to obey the orders of the officers appointed to run the event.
Any failure to follow these three simple rules will result in expulsion. We want this event to be a place where reenactors experience immersion in the world of the past without concern for the modern world and its issues.
